Christian counseling for trauma and abuse recovery.

Compassionate, trauma-informed care that takes both your wounds and your faith seriously. Online from anywhere, or in person in Memphis, TN and Franklin County, NC.

You’re not losing your mind, and you’re not losing your faith.

Abuse and trauma can leave you struggling in ways you never have before: memories that won’t stay in the past, a body that stays on high alert, sleepless nights, shame that clings, or a sense that God feels far away. Many survivors quietly wonder if they are weak, broken beyond repair, or simply bad Christians for not being able to move on.

These reactions make sense. When someone is deeply hurt, especially by a person they trusted, the injury reaches the heart, and it often keeps hurting long after the harm itself has stopped. Struggling is not proof that your faith has failed. It is often a sign that something truly wrong happened to you.

At Courage, our counselors and Christian Care Coaches walk with survivors toward healing that is patient, honest, and rooted in Christ’s care for the wounded.

How we care for trauma

Trauma-informed care isn’t a single technique. It’s a way of caring for the whole person, body and soul, that takes seriously how deep injuries affect us. Our approach is shaped by a few convictions:

We start with how it’s affecting you

What happened matters, but so does what it has done to you. Before we make plans, we take time to understand how you’ve been affected physically, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, and in your work.

You set the pace

You understand your own pain better than anyone. Healing from a wound of the heart takes time, rarely moves in a straight line, and can’t be rushed by you or your counselor. We build safety and trust first.

There is room to lament

The Psalms give God’s people words for grief, anger, and confusion. You don’t have to tidy up your pain before bringing it to God or to us.

Scripture at the center, wise tools alongside

We believe the Bible speaks to the deepest needs of hurting people. We also gladly use careful, well-tested trauma care practices that fit with Scripture, because God’s common grace has taught us a great deal about how trauma affects the body and mind.

Hope that holds in the dark

Our hope rests on God’s faithful love, which stays present in the worst of circumstances. We look for real healing and growth, while being honest that some wounds leave scars we learn to live with.

Many of our counselors and coaches are Certified Christian Trauma Care Providers, trained through the Christian Trauma Healing Network. Our executive director, Dr. Nate Brooks, serves on its board.
