Meet Our Counselors

Nate Brooks, Ph.D.

Nate Brooks has been counseling for over 15 years in a variety of contexts. He currently also serves as an Associate Professor of Counseling at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. Nate and his wife, Kate, live in the Triangle region with their three children.

Nate is a board member of the Christian Trauma Healing Network and has written for Christianity Today, the Biblical Counseling Coalition, The Gospel Coalition, and several academic journals. He is the author of Identifying Heart Transformation and co-author of Help! Our Sex Life is Troubled by Past Abuse. Ginny Jacobson

Ginny Jacobson serves as a contracted counselor for Courage Christian Counseling. She has worked in a variety of ministry roles over the last 20 years, with a special focus on helping survivors of trauma and intimate partner abuse, caregivers, missionaries, and ministry workers. Ginny walks patiently beside those who are struggling with grief, feel stuck, or are dealing with addiction. Ginny, and her husband Andy, live in Orlando, FL with their four children.

Aaron Hann

Aaron Hann serves as a contracted counselor for Courage Christian Counseling. After studying for pastoral ministry, he realized he could best use his gifts and life experience as a counselor. Aaron specializes in helping those who have been hurt by churches and religious organizations. He also helps adults struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, trauma, abuse, life and career stresses, and relationship conflicts. Aaron and his wife Kristen live in Kansas City with their two children. Joshua Adair

Joshua (Josh) Adair serves as a contracted counselor for Courage Christian Counseling. Josh brings years of vocational ministry and deep theological awareness to his counseling, serving with Cru before being ordained as a minister in the PCA in 2021. Josh specializes in helping adults and couples struggling with addiction, navigating complex relationships, intimate partner violence, post-traumatic stress, marital conflicts, anxiety, and depression. Josh and his wife Samantha live in Mississippi with their three children where he also serves as a pastor of a local church

Bethany Stout

Bethany Stout serves as a contracted counselor for Courage Christian Counseling. Bethany brings a unique background into her practice, having spent 7 years living and working in a high poverty context. Bethany specializes in helping individuals facing systemic traumas and abuse, including sexual abuse, domestic violence, homicide, addictions, self-harm, and grief. She brings the wisdom, compassion, and clarity of someone experienced in walking through complex situations. Bethany, her husband, and three children now live in Roanoke, VA where he serves as a pastor.

Shannon Oaks

Shannon Oaks serves as a contracted counselor for Courage Christian Counseling. Shannon brings over two decades of counseling experience, serving in a variety of roles and ministries. She specializes in counseling individuals processing through trauma and abuse, and helping those working through anxiety, grief, parenting and marital challenges. She is particularly passionate about helping her clients overcome their childhood abuse and coming along side parents who have children who are neurodivergent (autism, ADHD) or dealing with auto-immune disorders and chronic illness. Shannon and her husband Aaron live in Louisburg, NC with their five children.

Meet Our Counseling Fellows

Counseling fellows are individuals who do not possess graduate level training in counseling, but bring other certifications and significant life experience to their ministry. Counseling fellows meet with clients working through specific challenges that match their qualifications and experience.

 

Kate Brooks

Kate Brooks serves as a contracted counseling fellow for Courage Christian Counseling. Kate specializes in working with those struggling with chronic pain and illness, scrupulosity, and church hurt. Prior to working with Courage, Kate worked with Christian Trauma Counseling as a counselor and chronic pain and illness support group leader. Kate also writes and speaks on the topic of chronic pain and illness. She lives in North Carolina with her husband, Nate, and their three kids.

Alicia Wright

Alicia Wright serves as a contracted counseling fellow for Courage Christian Counseling. Alicia brings wit and wisdom to her counseling relationships, with 20 years of ministering to women in church contexts. Alicia specializes in ministering to those experiencing chronic pain and illness, anxiety, depression, grief, and adoption-related issues. Alicia, her husband, and their four children live in Memphis, TN where he serves as a pastor of a small, revitalizing Baptist church.
